Overcharged for Return Shipping? UPS Says 48oz Package Weighs 41lbs!
Hey everyone, I’m curious if any other FBM sellers have experienced this or found a solution. I’ve been running into an issue with returns where UPS claims the return weighs way more than it actually does. For example, I’ll receive a return that weighs 48 oz, but UPS says it’s 40 lbs, and I get charged the difference!
This has happened with multiple returns and has cost me thousands of dollars. I’ve tried reaching out to Amazon, but they tell me to contact UPS. Then UPS says I need to contact Amazon. I’m stuck in a frustrating loop, and I’m tired of losing my hard-earned money.
If anyone has advice or has dealt with this, I’d really appreciate your input!

Did the 'buyer' send it back in an oversized box? Dimensional weights are a thing and there have been cases of some vindictive Amazon customers sending small items in LARGE boxes as a way to 'get even' for something.

This overcharging on return shipping is an ongoing, massive issue between sellers and an Amazon and I am amazed that it continues. You are one of a huge number of sellers ( myself included) with the same horrible situation. You have my sympathy but I have no solution other than to sell elsewhere, since there seems to be no interest by Amazon in remedying the issue.

yep UPS is charging us for a 40LB box, when it weighs 5LB . or even 1lb.. their dimensional weight is a scam.

Hello @Seller_mknY8U48Mh6ab
Thanks for sharing the details of your recent carrier adjustments. I am currently working with our partner teams to provide additional information to sellers receiving these adjustments on their return shipments.
As other sellers have mentioned, carrier-audited weights do not always indicate 'actual' weight, but may also be dimensional weights.
Please note that according to the UPS Shipping Costs and Rates page on the UPS website: "Additional Handling Packages determined by length, width or length plus girth are subject to a minimum billable weight of 40 pounds. Additional Handling determined by weight or packaging/other factors will not be subject to Additional Handling minimum billable weight."
