Returns Outside of Amazon's 30 Day Window

If a customer missed the 30 day mark to return an item to Amazon that is unused - can they contact the manufacturer and make an exchange through them?

No, you sold the item. You can state they are outside of the return window, but they can then file an A-Z claim and will probably win. Or you can refund upon return minus any fees you can withhold.

" can they contact the manufacturer and make an exchange through them?"

How far beyond the "time limit" are they? The label that Amazon provided will still be good for several weeks so the question is how flexible do YOU want to be if they send it back late? You can still refund since Amazon generally bends over backwards for the buyer (NOT the seller).

I will differ from what @Seller_OvL8C4BJWiuS9said here slightly (very rare!) and ask you how good is your relationship with the brand?

I have some products that the manufacturer actually WANTS to get any defects back and I have at least one that would accommodate a rare exchange without it being defective.

I only had to make that call once since they wanted to exchange something and I was out of what they wanted. The prices were the same, just a different model so there was no money issue.

Yes, but Amazon has to give them that information by them contacting support. They will tell the customer to contact the manufacturer. Then the customer has to say "what is the manufacturer's contact information" and they will either direct them to the page it is on or give it to them.

Now, mind you, this was over a year ago when I was still buying on Amazon and had an issue that was out of the return window. I wasn't getting a response back from their website support I found on google so I contacted them through Amazon support and they sent a replacement cord.
