partial cancel of an order

I have a customer that ordered 2 pcs of our product, but we only have 1 pc in stock. I do not see an option to just cancel 1 pc. Is that possible to do?

Amazon does not provide a suitable way to deal with that. First send a note of explanation and apology to the buyer -- do this before confirming.

Then, proceed just as if you were shipping both, but only ship the one. Wait a few hours, then refund for the one not shipped. Be sure the refund includes any shipping charge. (Your note to the buyer will have explained just what you will be doing.)

Technically the way you are supposed to do it is to use a Order Cancellation file upload, which is located here:

https://sellercentral.amazon.com/order-reports-and-feeds/feeds/cancelOrder#

Using the upload will count against your metrics as an order cancellation, however, whereas the method that @Seller_Hi7wbO2Kbo6blmentioned will not.

When I had this problem a few months ago, I did exactly as @Seller_Hi7wbO2Kbo6blexplained. I had no problems and I don't believe I took a metrics hit in any way.

Hi @Seller_t0mPFhRiFfwqW,

Thank you for reaching out about this! So happy to see that other sellers jumped in here to share some great insights and suggestions.

I'm just coming across this thread and wanted to check in with you, were you able to follow any of the advice here to successfully cancel part of the order?

If you happen to run into this situation again, here are some instructions on how to cancel or refund part of a multi-item order by uploading an Order Adjustment Feed:

1. Ship and confirm all of the items that you can fulfill.

2. Use an Order Adjustment Feed to submit a refund for the order items that you cannot fulfil. Provide the following information in the feed:

  • Quantity Cancelled: The quantity that cannot be fulfilled.
  • Adjustment Reason: The refund code. Select either NoInventory or CustomerCancel.

For more information and best practices for order cancellations, I'd recommend reading through this help page.

If you have any additional questions or need further assistance with this, please let me know!

All the best,

Jameson
