Fire and other safety products

Amazon’s policies require that certain fire and other safety products sold through the Amazon must meet specified certification standards. To sell these products on Amazon, you must apply by submitting the following information to lifesafetyequipment@amazon.com.au:

  • Company name
  • Seller ID
  • Email address
  • Phone number
  • A list of ASINs you are applying to sell
  • Clear image of model number displaying on product
  • If you are a reseller of these products, a letter from the manufacturer demonstrating that you are an authorised reseller
  • Documentation from an accredited testing laboratory or organisation is required to confirm the product was tested and found to comply with the applicable standards listed in the following table:

Fire and Other Safety Product Definitions

Smoke alarms: Smoke alarms issue a local audible or visual alarm to notify the presence of smoke as an indicator of fire. These products are typically found in homes.


Smoke detectors: Smoke detectors issue a signal to a fire alarm control panel, as part of a larger fire safety system, to notify the presence of smoke as an indicator of fire. These products are typically found in commercial environments.


Carbon monoxide alarms: Carbon monoxide alarms are intended to alarm at carbon monoxide levels below those that cause a loss of ability to react to the dangers of carbon monoxide exposure. Carbon monoxide are intended to respond to the presence of carbon monoxide from sources such as, but not limited to, exhaust from internal-combustion engines, abnormal operation of fuel-fired appliances, and fireplaces.


Carbon dioxide fire extinguishers: Carbon dioxide fire extinguishers extinguish the fire by removing the oxygen element of the fire triangle, and also by removing the heat with a very cold discharge.


Wet chemical type fire extinguisher: Wet chemical type fire extinguisher protect from Class A & F fire risks. This includes cooking oil and fat fires.

Water type fire extinguishers: Water type fire extinguishers protect assets from Class A fire risks. This includes materials such as timber, paper, textiles and furnishings.

Foam type fire extinguisher: Foam type fire extinguisher protects from Class A & B fire risks. This includes Class A materials such as timber, paper, textiles and furnishings, as well as Class B materials such flammable liquids, including polar solvent/alcohol type fuels.

Dry powder type fire extinguishers: Dry powder type fire extinguisher works by allowing the powder to be delivered accurately to the source of the fire for maximum effectiveness in extinguishing fires in confined areas.

Aerosol type portable fire extinguisher: A non-rechargeable fire extinguisher in which the expellant gas is stored under pressure with the extinguishant in an aerosol container.

Vaporising liquid fire type extinguisher: Vaporising liquids extinguish fires both physically (by cooling) and chemically (by interfering with the chemical process). Typical gases include halon and halon replacements like FM200 and NAF-P-III.

Non-rechargeable type fire extinguisher: Fire extinguishers that are intended for one use only and are not refillable, even when empty.
