To better manage fulfilment centre space, so that products are received and delivered to buyers more quickly, we may apply an inventory storage limit to your seller account. Storage limits are based on units and are set for each storage type (standard size and oversize).
If your account is subject to a storage limit, the restock limits monitor appearing in your seller account, including your Shipping Queue and inventory performance dashboard, will display your storage limit allocation. We may also email you your storage limit from time to time. You can remove or dispose of inventory at any time by submitting a removal order. For more information, go to Remove inventory (overview).
Professional selling accounts may or may not have storage limits, depending on the following criteria:
Individual selling accounts are not subject to storage limit increases and have a set storage limit of 500 standard units and 100 oversize units. Sellers with an individual account do not have access to an IPI score or the inventory performance dashboard.
Your current inventory level takes into account your inventory in Amazon Fulfilment Centres, and other processed removal orders.
The green, yellow, and red indicators also alert you to how close you are to your limit:
Green | Your inventory level is at less than 75% of your limit. |
Yellow | Your inventory level is between 75% and 90% of your limit. |
Red | Your inventory level is at more than 90% of your limit. |
You will be notified in your seller account when you reach your inventory storage limit. You will not be able to create a new shipment until your inventory level drops below your limit. For example, if your current limit for standard-size inventory is 200 units and you have 220 units of standard-size inventory at an Amazon Fulfilment centre, you will not be able to create a new standard-size inventory shipment. However, if you are below your storage limit for oversize inventory, you will be able to create shipments of oversize inventory. If you send more inventory than your storage limit allows, the extra inventory may be refused at the fulfilment centre. For more information, see Shipping and Routing Requirements
There are three ways to decrease the amount of inventory you have in an Amazon Fulfilment Centre:
When you submit a removal order or make similar changes, the inventory storage monitor won’t reflect the changes until your request has been processed, which typically happens on the following day.
For more information, see Remove inventory (overview).
You can view your storage limit in the restock limits monitor in your Shipping Queue and inventory performance dashboard. The restock limits monitor will show you the amount of storage that you have utilised out of your total allocation for standard and oversize storage.
Your storage limit is based on how well you are driving sales by stocking popular products and efficiently managing on-hand inventory as measured by your Inventory Performance Index (IPI) score, historical sales volume, and available fulfilment centre capacity.
Your storage limit is reviewed on a quarterly basis for sellers with a Professional account, with quarters commencing on the 1st of January, April, July, and October each year. Your IPI score is updated weekly.
The best way to improve your IPI score and potentially increase your storage limit, while minimising your FBA storage fees, is to keep your inventory at lean levels while ensuring that you have enough on-hand to minimise lost sales from popular items.
Review the inventory performance dashboard and prioritise taking action on excess inventory, stranded inventory, and low sell through inventory. You should identify any aged inventory that has been on-hand for longer than 12 months and take immediate action. This will also prevent you from incurring long-term storage fees to help minimise your costs. Your IPI score is based on your historical performance, so actions that you take today will take time to fully reflect in your IPI score and corresponding storage limits.
To learn more about how you can improve future storage limit allocations, go to IPI frequently asked questions.Your current storage limit remains in effect until the next quarterly adjustment cycle and is reviewed quarterly based on how well you are driving sales by stocking popular products and efficiently managing on-hand inventory as measured by your IPI score. We encourage you to take actions to improve your IPI score in time for the next quarterly storage limit adjustment.
Your current storage limit remains in effect until the next quarterly adjustment cycle. We encourage you to take actions to maintain your IPI score in time for the next quarterly storage limit cycle.
We will notify you if the threshold changes in the future.
