How are referral fees calculated?

Professional sellers pay a referral fee on each item sold.

  • For media products(books, music, video, DVD, software, and video games): Amazon deducts the greater of the applicable referral fee percentage or applicable per-item minimum referral fee calculated on the item price, excluding any taxes collected through Amazon tax calculation services.
  • For non-media products: Amazon deducts the greater of the applicable referral fee percentage or applicable per-item minimum referral fee calculated on the total sales price (the total amount paid by the buyer including the item price and any shipping or gift wrap charges), excluding any taxes collected through Amazon tax calculation services.

For a list of referral fees by category, see Selling on Amazon Fee Schedule.

Note: Sellers on the Professional selling plan can download a Referral Fee Preview report with information about estimated referral fee amounts based on current listed item prices. Estimates do not account for shipping or gift wrap charges applied at the time of purchase. For more information, see How to Read a Referral Fee Preview Report.
