Dangerous goods (also called hazardous materials or hazmat) are substances or materials that may pose a risk to health, safety, property, or the environment while storing, handling or transporting because they contain flammable, pressurised, corrosive, or otherwise harmful substances. Amazon’s dangerous goods policies become relevant to you when you are using FBA. Read below for detailed information on Amazon’s policy regarding dangerous goods and your responsibilities as a seller.
While the term “dangerous good” is often thought of as highly corrosive or toxic products, it actually also refers to consumer products used on a daily basis by millions of people (such as laptops, phones, household cleaners, or even cosmetics). It is extremely important for Amazon to gather information about products regulated as dangerous goods or that contain possibly harmful chemicals to prevent any safety incidents that could occur while handling, storing, or transporting these items.
See also Examples of products that might be regulated as dangerous goods for a non-exhaustive list of common dangerous goods per product category.
Dangerous goods are regulated in Australia by the following:
Take care before sending dangerous goods to Amazon, as many products regulated as dangerous goods cannot be fulfilled by Amazon (see ‘Dangerous Goods Allowed for Sale through FBA’ heading below). When you send permitted dangerous goods to Amazon, they must comply with all applicable regulations mentioned above to ensure that they are transported, stored, handled, and labelled safely and correctly. Failure to comply exposes employees, carriers, and customers to potential health and safety risks.
In order to sell dangerous goods through Fulfilment by Amazon, you must:

The Dangerous Goods Program allows you to fulfil a number of products that are regulated as dangerous goods (please see the above table for what kinds of products can be fulfilled if you are approved under this program). To participate in the Dangerous Goods Program, you must first sign Amazon’s Terms and Conditions and then be accepted into the program by Amazon. You can request access to Amazon’s Terms and Conditions by creating a ticket to Seller Support.
Any warning labels or warning phrases on a product package indicates that it might be regulated as a dangerous good. Some products that are regulated as dangerous goods do not require warning labels or phrases (cosmetics and speakers containing magnetised material, for example). The absence of any labels or warnings does not mean that they are not dangerous goods.
If you think that your product might be regulated as a dangerous good, contact the manufacturer or supplier, and ask if your product is regulated. The manufacturer is required to provide you with a complete Safety Data Sheet (SDS) for all regulated products and you must, in turn, provide it to Amazon via the Upload dangerous goods documents tool.
Once your document is uploaded, Amazon will review it and classify your product accordingly, as long as the information is complete and accurate. To learn more about the review process, refer to FBA dangerous goods review process.
To learn more about the dangerous goods documentation that you must provide for your products, refer to Required dangerous goods information and documentation.
